The problem that is identified below does have a known permanent solution. Use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Reports have been received that the air precleaner group is difficult to remove from plenum and therefore difficult to service on the machines listed above.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem and recommends following improved air precleaner cleaning procedure for better serviceability.
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Cat Medium Wheel Loaders Plenum Cleaning Procedure
The procedure below is the general guidelines for cleaning the Cat Medium Wheel Loaders Plenum, if the precleaner is not removable from the plenum.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Proper PPE is required for this procedure including, but not limited to:
Safety glasses
Face mask/respiratorRecommendations
Perform procedure in open, well ventilated area.
Shut down engine and allow to fully cool.
Complete the following precleaner cleaning procedure prior to removing old primary element to prevent contamination of new primary element or safety element.Precleaner Cleaning Procedure

(A) Inlet of precleaner
(B) Check valve port
Blow out debris from the precleaner by directing compressed air at the following location.
Inlet of precleaner (A)
Direct the compressed air into the precleaner tubes.
Vary position and angle of nozzle through all the tubes.Note: Damage may occur if compressed air nozzle is forced into the precleaner tubes. Recommend maintaining greater than 50 mm (2.0 inch) distance between nozzle and precleaner tubes.
Check valve port (B)
Remove the check valve from the plenum assembly.
Direct the compressed air into the check valve port of the plenum.
Vary the position and angle of the nozzle to dislodge debrisNote: Damage may occur if compressed air nozzle is forced into the check valve port. Recommend maintaining greater than 50 mm (2.0 inch) distance between nozzle and precleaner tubes.
A vacuum may be used along with the compressed air to aid in debris removal.
Alternate blowing through inlet (A) and check valve port (B) approximately every 15 seconds until minimal debris is ejected, typically, 5-10 minutes.
Allow debris to disperse and follow normal element replacement procedure.
