(3KR1045-Up) Track-Type TractorsDescription of Change: A new engine cooling system surge tank assembly is used on the above tractors. The filler neck assembly solder joint is moved out of the flex plane in the new surge tank. This help to maintain the integrity of the solder joint.Adaptable To: The new 154-3771 Tank Assembly is a direct replacement for the 125-5458 Tank Assembly in these tractors. The new tank assembly is in effect as shown above. The 125-5458 Tank Assembly on earlier tractors can be retrofitted with the new filler 151-3015 Neck Assembly. See the 125-5458 Tank Assembly Modification Procedure that follows. 125-5458 Tank Assembly Modification Procedure
This procedure can be accomplished without removing the 125-5458 Tank Assembly from the tractor.
1. Stop the engine and lower the implements to the ground.2. Turn the start key to the "OFF" position and turn the disconnect key to the "DISCONNECT" position.3. This procedure may be accomplished on the tractor without draining and removing the tank if care is used to avoid contacting the brass parts with the weld rod.4. Mark the orientation of the old overflow tube on the tank.5. Heat the area around the filler neck with a "neutral" flame and remove the old brass filler neck.6. Thoroughly clean the area on the tank where the filler neck was removed. Use a wire brush to remove paint an corrosion.7. Center the new (pre-soldered) 151-3015 Neck Assembly over the hole in the tank where the old filler neck was removed. Be be sure the overflow tube is pointing in the direction marked in Step 4. Use 3 mm (1/8in) diameter E-6013 electrode with the welder set on 100 to 115 Amps. Weld the new filler neck assembly to the top of the surge tank with a 3 mm (1/8in) fillet weld. Use extra care to avoid contacting the brass parts with the electrode. Do not disturb the pre-soldered neck until everything has cooled.8. The weld may be air tested to assure a leak-free assembly. Apply 69 kPa (10 psi) air pressure to the tank assembly and use an aerated soap/water solution to check the new weld. Bubbles will appear at leaks.
