B 227-4393 E18 Torx Socket 1 Note: The weight of the assembly of the crankshaft pulley, the vibration damper, and the crankshaft adapter is approximately 22 kg (48 lb).

Remove bolts (1) and guard (2).
Remove the alternator belt. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace" for the correct procedure.

Use a suitable tool to prevent the crankshaft from rotating. Use Tooling (B) to remove one Torx screw (3) from crankshaft pulley assembly (4).
Install Tooling (A) into crankshaft pulley assembly (4).
Remove remaining Torx screws (3) from crankshaft pulley assembly (4).
Remove crankshaft pulley assembly (4).
Remove Tooling (A).

If necessary, follow Step 8.a through Step 8.b to remove friction shim (5) from the crankshaft.
Remove the front seal from the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove and Install".
Remove friction shim (5).
If necessary, follow Step 9.a through Step 9.c to disassemble vibration damper, crankshaft pulley from crankshaft adapter.
Place the crankshaft pulley assembly onto a suitable support.
Remove bolts (9) from crankshaft pulley assembly (4).
Remove vibration damper (8) and crankshaft pulley (7) from crankshaft adapter (6).Installation Procedure

Ensure that the crankshaft adapter and the front of the crankshaft are clean and free from damage.
Inspect vibration damper (8) for damage. If necessary, replace the vibration damper.
If necessary, follow Step 3.a through Step 3.f to install vibration damper, crankshaft pulley to crankshaft adapter.
Place crankshaft adapter (6) onto a suitable support.
Install Tooling (D) on crankshaft adapter (6).
Install crankshaft pulley (7) and vibration damper (8) over Tooling (D).
Install bolts (9) to the crankshaft pulley assembly.Note: Evenly space bolts (9) around the crankshaft pulley assembly.
Remove Tooling (D).
Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 115 N m (85 lb ft).
If necessary, install friction shim (5). Follow Step 4.a through Step 4.b to install friction shim (5).
Install friction shim (5).
Install a new front seal to the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove and Install".
Install Tooling (A) to the crankshaft.

Install crankshaft pulley assembly (4) onto the crankshaft.
Install one Torx screws (3) to crankshaft pulley assembly (4) hand tighten.
Remove Tooling (A).
Install remaining Torx screws (3) to crankshaft pulley assembly (2).
Use a suitable tool to prevent the crankshaft from rotating. Tighten Torx screws (3) to a torque of 40 N m (29 lb ft).
Use Tooling (B) and Tooling (C) to turn Torx screws (3) through an additional 120 degrees.
Install the alternator belt. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace" for the correct procedure.

Install bolts (1) and guard (2).
