Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Lower the scraper bowl to the ground and engage the parking brake. Chock the wheels in order to prevent the machine from moving.

Remove two bolts (1) and the washers that secure retainer (2) to the steering link. Remove retainer (2) from the steering link.

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to the steering cylinder. Disconnect five grease lines (3) from the steering link. Use Tooling (A) to remove pin (4) from the steering link. Separate the steering links from the steering cylinder. Remove the tooling from the steering cylinder.

Remove two bolts (5) and the washers that secure retainer (6) to the steering link. Remove retainer (6) from the steering link. Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to the steering link. Use Tooling (A) to remove pin (7) from the rear steering link. Remove the rear steering link from the machine. The rear steering link weighs 43 kg (95 lb). Repeat the procedure for the other steering links. The front steering links weigh 45 kg (100 lb).Note: In order to remove the left front steering link, the servo steering cylinder (8) must be disconnected from the steering link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Servo Steering Cylinder - Remove and Install" for information on disconnecting the servo steering cylinder.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Position the rear steering link to the machine. The rear steering link weighs 43 kg (95 lb). Use a soft faced hammer to install pin (7) to the rear steering link. Position retainer (6) to the steering link. Install the washers and two bolts (5) that secure retainer (6) to the steering link. Repeat the procedure for the other steering links. The front steering links weigh 45 kg (100 lb).Note: After the installation of the left front steering link, the servo steering cylinder (8) must be connected to the steering link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Servo Steering Cylinder - Remove and Install" for information on connecting the servo steering cylinder.
