Connecting to the System
There are three methods of connecting to the system with UPS View:
RS-232 or RS-485- UPS control based on password level
Modem - Normally for viewing only. Control may be allowed for service personnel if a special password is entered on the UPS control panel.
Network - For viewing only.Note: Any network or email configuration may require a reboot of the system.RS-232 or RS-485 Direct Connection Procedure
The following instructions explain how to connect a PC to a UPS via the RS-232 or RS-485 serial communications ports.There is the possibility of shock and/or electrocution hazard. There is 480vac present in the system I/O board area. The system MUST be shut down as stated in the following procedure.
Perform shutdown procedures as appropriate for your UPS system.
Connect a computer equipped with UPS View to the PC communications port.The location of the RS-232 or RS-485 serial communications port can vary between product lines. Refer to the appropriate manual for the serial communication port location on your system.
Apply power to the UPS system.

From the UPS View menu bar, select "PC Settings". Select "Connection Settings". Refer to illustration 1.Illustration 2 will appear.

Select "Direct Connect (serial)".
Select the "Serial/Modem Port Number" from the drop-down list.
Select the "Serial/Modem Baud Rate" from the drop-down menu.
Select "System Summary Telemetry" or "Detailed Multi-Module Unit (MMU) Telemetry" as required.
Click on the "Connect" button.Your PC should now be connected directly to the UPS via the serial communications port.
Bring your system online as instructed in the appropriate operation manual.Connecting via a Modem
The following items are needed in order to monitor the UPS, if the UPS is equipped with a modem.

Connect a computer equipped with UPS View to the UPS modem.
From the UPS View menu bar, select "PC Settings". Select "Connection Settings". Refer to Illustration 1.Illustration 3 will appear.

Select "Modem Connect" from the "Connection Settings" menu.
Select the "Serial/Modem port number" from the drop-down list.
Select the "Serial/Modem baud rate" from the drop-down list.
Input the "Modem dial-out number". The "Modem dial-out number" is the number of the telephone line connected to the target system being monitored.
Select the "System Summary Telemetry" or "Detailed MMU Telemetry" as required.
Click on the "Connect" button.Your PC should now be connected to the UPS via the modem.Connecting to the Network
The UPS must have the Ethernet option installed.
Connect a computer equipped with UPS View to the UPS Ethernet hub.Note: The computer running UPS View must have network access in order to enable monitoring via the network.Windows XP® can have different firewall protection settings for wireless and RJ45 connections. The "XP" firewall must be configured appropriately for the connection type to be used with UPS View.Check with your Network Administrator to see if UDP packets are enabled on the routers. Text and tile definitions are sent via TCP protocol to the computer while data is sent via UDP, a "fire and forget" packet.
