L4 Droop with under speed control is adopted to contribute efficiency by allowing the use of 100% of engine power. The Machine ECM (Electronic Control Module) monitors engine speed and adjusts pump torque to deliver rated engine power. If the pumps put excessive demand on the engine, the ECM slightly reduces pump output to allow hydraulic demand to approach, but not exceed engine power. This means engine speed remains nearly constant.By using this microprocessor-managed system, the need to reserve engine power to help prevent engine stall has been eliminated. This provides a substantial efficiency advantage. Under speed control is only functional for maximum hydraulic requirements with the engine speed dial at "10".ECM (Electronic Control Module)

The 320D3 does not have Engine ECM (Electronic Control Module). So, Machine ECM controls engine accessories such as Governor Actuator, Glow Plug, Starter Relay/Motor. Machine ECM has the following functions as shown below:
Operate governor actuator to control engine rpm.
Controls starter relay / motor when engine start, which prevents breaking starter relay/ motor from over cranking.
Controls fuel shut off solenoid when engine stops.
Controls glow plug for cold start ability (optional attachment)
Derates / stops the fuel / hydraulic supply to prevent unauthorized use as tamperproof by PL-641 product link.
