Generator Identification
The generator identification and information plate is located on the left side of the generator.When service is required, use the information given on these plates. The information contains the serial number, model number and the generator set (engine and generator) rating. All pertinent generator data is also included on the plate to provide the necessary information to order parts. Generator Construction
The SR4 HV Generators described in this manual are brushless revolving field type with two bearing close coupled construction. The generators are manufactured in many sizes and ratings with various optional features such as enclosures, terminal boxes, and controls. Generator excitation current is supplied from a direct connected brushless rotating DC exciter.The generators may be supplied with various controls designed to provide the user's exact power needs. Controls are normally shipped loose, but may be contained in separate wall mounted cubicles, in free standing control cubicles, or in a control box mounted to the generator frame if so requested by the customer.Generators are supplied with permanent magnet (PM) generators to provide power to the regulator under short circuit conditions, or field flashing (in case generator or brushless exciter loses residual magnetism) and to reduce electromagnetic interference.Generators are supplied with a mounted terminal box which is designed to accommodate the connections to the load. A separate compartment within this box accommodates accessory connections to RTD's, space heaters, exciter and PMG leads.The basic generator includes frame and stator, rotor, enclosures and brushless exciter with permanent magnet generator mounted on the shaft to provide power to the voltage regulator.The generator frame is fabricated of heavy steel members welded to the endbell or bearing bracket pilot rings. The feet are welded to the frame to simplify installation and alignment with the prime mover. Eye bolts are fastened to the frame to enable lifting of the generator with an overhead hoist.Stator Construction
The generator stator has fabricated bar and plate steel construction. It is machined to tolerance to provide alignment with the rotor. Non-oriented, silicon steel laminations with core plated insulation on both sides are used to reduce core loss and temperature rise in the machine and to improve efficiency. The stacked laminations are skewed to reduce harmonic distortion caused by the slots and are secured under pressure with clamping plates without welding on the laminations.Winding overhang on the stator is insulated between phases. Surge ropes are used to support the winding overhang. The windings are braced to withstand single-phase and three-phase fault conditions.Windings are inserted into the stator slots and the entire assembly is vacuum pressure impregnated with 100 percent epoxy resin. Stator leads terminate in standard connection lug or strap copper terminals for ease of connection to the load.
