Assembly Procedure
Table 1
Tools Needed
1P510 Driver Gp     1    Note: Before assembly, clean all parts in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. DO NOT dry the parts with wiping cloths or with rags. Cloths and rags contain lint. Inspect all parts. Replace worn parts and replace damaged parts.
Do not push against the inner race of ball bearing (8) during installation. Damage to the ball bearing can occur. Push against the outer race of the ball bearing.
Install ball bearing (8) in front frame (5). Install retainer (10) with three screws (9) .
Place collar (39) on the shaft of rotor (7). Insert the shaft of rotor (7) through ball bearing (8) in front frame (5) .
Place collar (40) on the shaft of rotor (7) .
Install the spacers and the nut, as shown. Fully install the shaft of rotor (7) in ball bearing (8) .
If the roller bearing is removed, install roller bearing (38) in rear frame (6). Use the 1P510 Driver Group .
Place field winding (37) in rear frame (6). Install four screws (36) .
Place stator (35) in rear frame (6). Position grommet (34) in indentation (41) .
Place rectifier (33) in rear frame (6). Install screw (32) .
Place capacitor (31) in rear frame (6). Install screw (30) .
Place regulator (20) in rear frame (6). Install screw (29) .
Place "B+" terminal (27) and strap (28) in rear frame (6). Make sure that insulators (42) are properly positioned.
Install insulator (25) through the lead of capacitor (31) and through strap (28) .
Install screw (15). Tighten nut (26) .
Place diode assembly (21) on rectifier (33) and on regulator (20) .
Place "R" terminal (17) and strap (18) in rear frame (6). Make sure that insulators (43) are properly positioned. Tighten nut (16) .Note: For correct operation, there must be NO continuity between the following components: screw (15) and strap (28), nut (26) and rear frame (6) and "R" terminal (17) and rear frame (6) .
Make sure that the insulators are installed on screws (19). Place the field winding leads on screws (19). Install two screws (19) .
Place strap (24) on rectifier (33) and on regulator (20). Install screw (22), and tighten nut (23) .Note: For correct operation, there must be NO continuity between screws (19) and the respective field winding lead.
Place the stator leads on the terminals of rectifier (33). Install three nuts (14) on the terminals of rectifier (33) .
Position plate (13) on rear frame (6). Install four screws (12). Install screw (11) at the "B-" terminal.
Join rear frame (6) and front frame (5). Install four bolts (4). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 6.2 0.6 N m (55 5 lb in).
Install shield (3) .
Install the pulley and the fan.
Install the pulley nut and tighten the pulley nut to a torque of 100 7 N m (74 5 lb ft).End By: Install the alternator on the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
