Apply a thin film of oil to contacting surfaces of the metal seal rings just prior to assembly.Seal rings must be assembled square with the bore and toric must not be bulged or twisted.Refer to 6Y-0300 Installation Instructions for Conventional Duo-Cone Seal Assemblies.(7) (11) Apply 6V-6640 sealant to the end of the housing between the cover and the housing.Seal Assembly
1. Install seal ring (20) on load ring (17) as shown in (detail D). The surface with the part number on the seal ring must contact the surface of the load ring with the part number. Make sure there is no oil in the interface between load ring (17) and seal ring (20). The seal ring MUST be completely seated against the flange of the load ring.2. Apply a thin film of oil (detail D) to the retainer counterbore (21) or the outer diameter of seal load ring assembly (18) to facilitate installation into the counterbore.3. Install seal load ring assembly (18) into the retainer counterbore (21) with sharp sealing edge (19) extending out of the retainer. It is critical that the seal load ring assembly be completely seated in retainer (21).4. Coat the spindle or bearing bore of the bogie arm with a film of 80W90 gear oil prior to assembling the major bogie arm to the spindle.5. Repeat step #1 for the second load ring and seal ring.6. Apply a thin film of oil (detail C) to the bearing groove (16) on the outer bogie arm or to the outer diameter of seal load ring assembly (18) to facilitate installation into the counterbore.7. Install seal load ring assembly (18) into bearing groove (16) with sharp sealing edge (19) extending out of the bearing groove. It is critical that seal load ring assembly (18) be completely seated in groove (16).8. Repeat step #4 and install plate (12) and three bolts (13). Tighten bolts (13) to a torque of 215 40 N m (160 30 lb ft).9. Apply 6V-5765 Sealant (11) between the bogie housing and plate (14). Install plate (14) and bolts (15).10. Fill the housing with 395 mL (13.4 oz-liq) of 80W90 gear oil.Procedure to Adjust Suspension Bogie Bearings
