Location Of Connectors (3) Cab Ground Post.This fault code indicates the transmission down shift switch circuit has a higher than normal voltage and may be due to an open circuit or short to a positive voltage supply.
Enter Mode 3 at the Electronic Monitoring Center (EMC) and select identification number P109 (down shift). Move shifter in and out of down shift and monitor results at the EMC display. Does the display change between Hi and Lo for both positions of the switch?Expected Result: For both of the positions of the switch, the display changes between "Hi" and "Lo".
YES, check Mode 12 for proper setup. After all Mode 12 parameters are checked and/or corrected, save all of the values even if no changes are made. To save, press and hold the setup/select key for three seconds. Turn the key start switch OFF and wait for 10 seconds. Operate the machine. Check to see if the fault code reoccurs. If the fault code is still active, go to Step 6.
NO, go to Step 2.
Disconnect gear shift switch connector C012. Turn key start switch OFF. Check for open circuit in shifter between C012-3 and C012-5 (greater than 2500 ohms resistance). Expected Result: There is an open circuit.
YES, replace gear shift switch. Check fault code and if no longer active the repair is complete.
NO, go to Step 3.
Check for open circuit in Right Hand Console harness between C012-3 and C011-C4, also C012-5 and RH-C005-7. Expected Result: There is an open circuit.
YES, locate and repair open circuit in Right Hand Console harness. Check fault code and if no longer active the repair is complete.
NO, go to Step 4.
Check for open circuit in Cab Main harness between CM-C005-7 and cab rear ground at right rear floor. Expected Result: There is an open circuit.
YES, locate and repair open circuit in Cab Main harness. Check fault code and if no longer active the repair is complete.
NO, go to Step 5.
Turn key start switch ON and place the shifter in NEUTRAL. Check for short to positive voltage in Right Hand Console harness and Cab Main harness at C012-3, C012-5 and CM-C005-7. Measure voltage from each terminal to chassis ground for presence of positive voltage. Expected Result: There is a short circuit.
YES, locate and repair short circuit in either the Right Hand Console or Cab Main harness. Check fault code and if no longer active the repair is complete.
NO, go to Step 6.
Download latest control module software into all control modules. Expected Result: The fault code is active.
YES, go to Step 7.
NO, repair is complete.
Replace Right Hand (RHC) Module.Expected Result: The fault code is active.
YES, install original RHC repeat troubleshooting procedure.
NO, go to Step 8.
Install the original RHC. Expected Result: The fault code is active.
YES, original RHC was faulty. Replace original RHC with new RHC. If fault code is not active, repair is complete. Download latest control module software into all modules.
