start by: a) remove fuel tankb) remove fan drivec) remove radiator and guardd) remove air tanke) remove rear bumperf) remove parking brake rotochamber and release valveg) remove differential lock actuator valve (if so equipped)h) remove axles 1. Drain the oil from the transmission. Put identification on transmission oil cooler lines (2) as to their location on the relief control valve. Disconnect the oil lines from the valve.2. Remove the bolt that holds tube (3) to the flywheel housing. Loosen the hose clamps that hold tube (3) to the elbow for the water pump. Remove tube (3).3. Loosen the nut on bolts (1) on each side of the flywheel housing. Turn bolts (1) until they are against the frame. Tighten the nuts on the bolts. Remove the lifting eyes from the transmission. 4. Loosen nuts (6) and slide them over cables (4). Remove bolts (7). Slide retainer (8) over cables (4).5. Remove couplings (5) from the transmission housing with a screwdriver. Lift the transmission control cables out of the notches in the links in the transmission control valves. 6. Remove the two bolts that hold oil filler tube (9) to the top of the differential.7. Remove oil filler tube (9). 8. Put tool (A) in position on the top of the transmission.9. Install bolts (10), that were used with the lifting eyes, to hold the lifting bracket to the transmission. The lifting eyes are used to remove the transmission only.10. Fasten a hoist to tool (A).11. Remove bolts (11) that hold the transmission housing to the flywheel housing.12. Remove nuts (12) that hold the differential carrier to the bevel gear case. Install three 5/8"-11 NC forcing screws in the differential carrier. Move the differential away from the bevel gear case with the forcing screws. 13. Remove differential and transmission (13) as a unit. Weight is 2000 lb. (907 kg).14. Remove four bolts from the manifold at the rear of the transmission. 15. Put the transmission and the differential in position on tool (B).16. Install four bolts to hold the transmission to the bracket on tool (B).17. Remove the hoist and tool (A) from the transmission.18. Fasten a hoist and straps to the differential as shown. 19. Remove nuts (15) that hold differential (14) to the transmission.20. Remove differential (14). Weight of the direct drive differential is 455 lb. (206 kg). Weight of the unlocking differential is 500 lb. (227 kg).Install Differential
1. Fasten a hoist to differential (1) as shown. Put the differential in position on the transmission. Install the lockwashers and the nuts that hold the differential to the transmission. Remove the hoist and the straps. 2. Install tooling (A) on transmission (2). Fasten a hoist to tooling (A). Remove the bolts that hold the transmission on to the bracket on tool (B). Install the manifold and the bolts.3. Put the transmission and the differential in position in the bevel gear housing and against the flywheel housing.
