Repair ring and repair adapter installed in valve plates.The FT1444 and FT1445 drawings each show two parts, the repair ring and repair adapter. The two parts are needed when both valve plates on a carcass need a repair. FT1444 is used for 988 Loaders while FT1445 is used for 992 Loaders.
Formerly, if there was a leak, the Beadless assembly had to be removed from the machine. It then had to be disassembled and the carcass sent to a repair facility. Also, it was only possible to make a repair to one of the valve plates. With the new FT1444 and FT1445 Repair Tools, a repair can be made to one or both valves without complete disassembly of the Beadless Tire.
Before the plug or strainer assembly is removed, remove all air pressure from inside the carcass.
It is the recommendation that the Beadless assembly be removed from the machine and put horizontally on the ground when repairs are made. When the air pressure is removed, the weight of the shoes and belt will cause the carcass to collapse. It is also possible that the belt assembly may fall completely off the carcass.
If a repair must be made to the valve plate that is used for the inflation valve stem, use the procedure that follows: ... Separate the rim halves enough to give clearance for a socket and an extension.... Remove the valve stem assembly and then the strainer assembly (see illustration).... Install the repair ring from the FT1444 or FT1445 Valve Plate Repair Tools. Use a small amount of grease between the repair ring and carcass rubber. Make sure that the repair ring is centered correctly.... Install a new O-ring seal on the strainer assembly. Put anti-seize compound on the threads and install the strainer assembly.... Tighten the strainer assembly completely until it compresses (puts force against) the carcass rubber.
If a repair must be made to the valve plate that has the plug, use the procedure that follows: ... Use an Allen wrench to remove the plug from the valve plate.... Put a small amount of grease between the repair adapter and the carcass rubber.... Install a new O-ring seal on the repair adapter. Put antiseize compound on the threads and install the repair adapter.... Tighten the repair adapter completely until it compresses the carcass rubber.
