Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove".
Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".
Remove the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove and Install" .
Remove the camshaft position sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Position Sensor - Remove and Install".
Remove the camshaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft - Remove".
Remove the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Position Sensor - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Align the timing marks on the idler gear with the marks on the crankshaft gear and the camshaft gear before removal.

Remove the following items from the front housing: bolt (1), shaft (2) and gear (3) .
Remove the following items from the front housing: bolt (4), shaft (5) and gear (6) .Note: During installation, it is possible to install the accessory drive incorrectly. Before removal, mark accessory drive (8) for correct orientation.
Remove bolts (7) and accessory drive (8) .
