Personal injury can result if precautions are not taken during removal of the lock plate on the lower articulated hitch assembly. The weight of the lock plate is approximately 57 kg (125 lb). Lock plate support is necessary during removal. It is recommended to use a movable floor jack or similar support device during the lock plate removal process.

Illustration 2.1. Remove the 7I-4845 Lock Plate (3) and any 8X-0148 Shims (2) from the bottom of the lower articulated hitch assembly. The 7I-4845 Lock Plate (3) was effective with 994 (9YF21-Up) Wheel Loaders. On 994 (9YF1-20) Wheel Loaders, remove 8X-0140 Plate and install the 7I-4845 Lock Plate (3).2. Drill two 6.2 mm (.24 in) diameter through holes (A), 180 degrees apart, in lock plate (3). Each hole (A) should be approximately 25 mm (1.0 in) from the center of the plate as shown in Illustration 2.3. Tap two holes (A), drilled in Step 2, with a 1/16in - 27 NPTF pipe thread tap. Deburr two holes (A) on both sides. Steps 2 and 3 apply to 994 (9YF21-74) Wheel Loaders. On 994 (9YF75-Up) Wheel Loaders, holes (A) are already drilled on 7I-4845 Plate.4. Set plate (3) on a clean, flat surface. Measure the thickness of the plate at two places by inserting a depth micrometer into the two holes (A) drilled in Step 2. Record the smaller of the the two readings as dimension (X). On 994 (9YF77-Up) Wheel Loaders, remove two 4D-0514 Plugs to insert micrometer in holes.5. Install plate (3) without shims. Secure it in place with four equally spaced 6V-8132 Bolts (6), and four 8T-4167 Hard Washers (7) on the inner bolt pattern. Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 530 70 N m (390 50 lb ft).6. Measure the space between the machine's frame and plate (3), 360 degrees around.7. Determine the minimum measurement obtained in Step 6, and subtract .25 mm (.001 in). Record this value as dimension (Y). This is the thickness of the 8X-0148 Shim (2) that will be used in the following step.8. Install 8X-0148 Shims to the thickness of dimension (Y) determined in Step 7. Use four 8T-0070 Bolts (4) and four 8T-4123 Washers (5) (equally spaced) and tighten to torque of 300 50 N m (222 37 lb ft).9. Install two 6V-8132 Bolts (6) and two 8T-4167 Washers (7), 180 degrees apart. Tighten to a torque of 530 70 N m (390 50 lb ft).10. Insert a depth micrometer into the two smallest holes and measure the air space (gap) at two places between 7I-4845 Plate (3) and the 8X-0139 Pin (1).11. Subtract the thickness of plate (3) [dimension (X) determined in Step 4] from the smallest of the two air space dimensions measured in Step 9. Record this as dimension (Z).12. Install 111-4163 Shim Pack (8) to the thickness of dimension (Z) .05 mm (.002 in) along with shim pack for dimension (Y) and 7I-4845 Plate (3).
