CHALLENGER 65E (6GS),
CHALLENGER 75E (6HS),
CHALLENGER 85E (6JS),
CHALLENGER 95E (6KS) AGRICULTURAL TRACTORSProblem:
There have been reports of the new 155-6581 Fuel Level Sender malfunctioning after a few hours. All of the reports have been in new machines.Solution:
The problem appears to be corrosion induced by the period of time the sender was not immersed in fuel. This corrosion causes the sender resistance to increase, resulting in erratic or low fuel level readings. The new senders that were tested in field machines did not encounter problems. It is believed that the likelihood of corrosion on the sender is reduced substantially once immersed in fuel. A long-term solution is being investigated. In the interim, if a 155-6581 Fuel Level Sender is found defective in an early hour machine, replace it with a new 155-6581 Fuel Level Sender. If low or erratic fuel level readings are noted, follow this procedure to determine whether the sender is faulty:1. Disconnect the 447-PK wire from the sender.2. Measure the sender resistance with the CAT 146-4080 digital multimeter.3. If the resistance is 300 ohms or greater, replace the sender. We recommend that you maintain your tractor full of fuel when not in use in order to reduce the chance of corrosion.COPYRIGHT 2000 CATERPILLAR ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
