Remove the diode from the connector at the solenoid of the 190-8800 Control Valve and recalibrate minimum and maximum fan speeds. Calibrate the minimum fan speed first before setting the maximum fan speed. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure.

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The diode built into the connector to the solenoid of the 190-8800 Control Valve of the cooling fan needs to be removed on the products listed below. The existing diode can interfere with the current driver in the ECM that controls the valve operation. Interference from the diode causes instability of the current driver. This condition can result in lower fan speeds at the minimum fan speed setting and slow response of the cooling fan speed in relation to rising engine temperature, allowing overheating of the engine.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 01Aug2007 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Remove the diode from the connector at the solenoid on the 190-8800 Fan Control Valve. Recalibrate the minimum and miximum fan speed settings. Refer to Special Instruction REHS3510 for the proper procedure to remove the diode and recalibrate the fan speed settings.
Note: Warm the machine up to operating temperature before calibrating the fan speeds. Warm up time is shortest if the machine is warmed up prior to removing the diode.
When setting the fan speeds be sure to calibrate the minimum fan speed first before setting the maximum fan speed to ensure the calibration settings fall within the correct calibration ranges.
