Typical Crack Locations (C) 40 mm (1.57 inch).
Welds should extend beyond the end of the adapter assemblies by at least 40 mm (1.57 inch). The weld should taper to 3 mm (0.12 inch) at the end. If the crack is completely through the weld and into the bucket edge, repair the crack in the bucket edge first. Then grind the weld smooth before continuing.Note: Imperfections in the weld increase the chance of a new crack to start from undesirable stress concentrations.
Clean the weld with a buffer. Ensure that the weld is flush and smooth to the original surface.

Welds reduce the stress concentration in a heavy-duty application. If a specification for a weld is 20 mm (0.79 inch), increase the fillet weld to a height of 20 mm (0.79 inch) and a width of 25 mm (0.98 inch). If the fillet weld is height (E), width (D) will be 25% greater than (E) .Repair Procedure for the Lower Paddle Plate

Determine the severity of the cracks by using a good light source and a magnifying glass or a Magnaflux TM Dye Penetrant process.
Remove the crack with a carbon arc.
Cut a weld joint with a 30° pitch over the cracks by using a carbon arc.
Weld the gouged areas with a 16 mm (0.63 inch) fillet. Use an OS-70 outer shield wire with a diameter of 2.39 mm (.094 inch) or an equivalent electrode. The weld should be continuous along the entire length of the gusset plate.Repair Procedure for the Shell of the Bucket to the Guard Plate Cover

Bucket Assembly
Remove the crack with a carbon arc.
Drill a hole at both ends of the crack. Drill the hole between 6.35 mm (.25 inch) and 9.525 mm (.375 inch) in diameter. This will stop the crack from continuing.
Grind the area so that no slag is left in the grooves.
The welds for the shell of the bucket to the guard plate cover must be 20 mm (0.79 inch) fillet welds. The fillet weld should be 150 mm (5.91 inch) long from the side plate. The fillet weld should taper to an 8 mm (0.32 inch) fillet weld. This procedure should be done on the inside and the outside of the bucket.

The first weld pass volume will be 150 mm (5.91 inch) long. This will be an 8 mm (0.32 inch) wide weld (B) .

The second pass will start from the side plate. The weld will be a 14 mm (0.55 inch) wide pass that is 150 mm (5.91 inch) from the side plate. When the weld reaches 250 mm (9.84 inch) from the side plate, the weld should diminish to 3 mm (0.12 inch) wide.
