Operation of Components in the Transmission Hydraulic Control Group    
Component     Operation (Function)    
Upshift solenoid (1)     This solenoid controls the movement of rotary actuator (5) during upshifts.    
Downshift solenoid (2)     This solenoid controls the movement of rotary actuator (5) during downshifts.    
Lockup clutch solenoid (3)     This solenoid controls the operation of relay valve (20).    
Rotary actuator (4)     This actuator controls movement of the rotary selector spool in selector and pressure control valve (8).    
Pressure control valve (6)     This valve controls oil flow, the rate of pressure increase and of pressure decrease, and oil pressure in the clutches.    
Manifold (7)     This manifold sends pump oil to rotary actuator (4).    
Selector and pressure control valve (8)     This valve controls system pressure and the amount and direction of pilot pressure oil that is sent to pressure control valve (6).    
Manifold (10)     This manifold sends oil to the clutches.    
Transmission lubrication relief valve (11)     This relief valve controls the pressure of the transmission lubrication oil.    
Relay valve (20)     This valve sends signal oil to the relay valve on the torque converter so that the lockup clutch will engage.
