Remove the tire and rim (front). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Front) - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: The following procedure is identical for both sides of the machine. Repeat the procedure for the remaining side of the machine, if necessary.
High pressure cylinder. Do not remove any parts until pressure has been relieved or personal injury may occur.
Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Use Tool (A) to release the nitrogen from the front suspension cylinder. Refer to Suspension Cylinder, System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Suspension Cylinder (Front) - Purge and Charge" for the correct procedure to discharge the nitrogen from the front suspension cylinders.

Position a suitable container below the hydraulic caliper service brake. Disconnect hose assembly (1) from the hydraulic caliper service brake. Drain the hydraulic oil in a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Position a lifting sling around steering arm (2), as shown. Secure the lifting sling to a suitable hoist.
Remove four bolts (3) and the hard washers and lower steering arm (2) away from the axle.

Loosen bolt (4) and remove the electrical connector. Disconnect wiring harness (5) at the electrical connection.

Use a suitable lift truck to attach Tooling (B) to the axle, as shown. Support the weight of the front suspension cylinder and the axle with Tooling (B) and a suitable lift truck.
Remove ten bolts (6), the full nuts, and the hard washers that hold the front suspension cylinder to the frame assembly.
Remove the front suspension cylinder and the axle from the frame assembly as a unit. The weight of the front suspension cylinder and the axle as a unit is approximately 955 kg (2100 lb).

Remove key (7) from the frame assembly.Note: The following steps are required only if the front suspension cylinder needs to be positioned in the horizontal position.

Position Tooling (B) on level ground. Pull two cotter pins (8) that are on Tooling (B).
Position a suitable lifting device around the front suspension cylinder. Secure the lifting device to a suitable hoist. Remove eight bolts (X) and the washers that are on either side of the base of Tooling (B). Remove the front suspension cylinder and the axle as a unit from the base of
