Install four new 6V-5684 Bolts and four 5P-8245 Washers in a 90 degree pattern with two of the bolts being placed near the pinion bearing cage lifting holes.
Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern starting with the bolts 90 degrees from the pinion bearing cage lifting holes.
Tighten the bolts to 40 +/- 2 Nm while rotating the pinion three revolutions.
Retighten the bolts to 40 +/- 2 Nm while rotating the pinion three revolutions again.
Repeat steps until the bolts do not move at 40 +/- 2 Nm.
Remove the bolts and washers.
Reinstall the bolts hand tight without washers.
Begin tightening the bolts in small increments to pull the pinion bearing cage down evenly. Rotate the pinion three revolutions.
Tighten the bolts in small increments in the crisscross pattern to 30 Nm. and rotate the pinion three revolutions.
Repeat step three times or until the bolts do not rotate on subsequent tightening.
Note: Continue to Step 20 that follows.

Step 20. Use Tooling (E) to take a measurement at two locations in a 180 degree pattern. Average both measurements and record the measurement. Subtract this recorded measurement from the recorded measurement Distance (ZZ) above and record the new measurement.
Note: The new measurement will provide a dimension for the average gap for shims (56) between the pinion bearing cage (51) and the carrier housing (50).
Use the average gap measurement that was recorded in Step 20 and add 0.325 mm (0.014 inch) to the average gap measurement in order to determine the thickness of shims (56) (not shown). Record the new measurement for use in Step 29.
Remove Tooling (G) and Tooling (H) from pinion bearing cage (51) or bolts if the alternate setting method was used.

Use Tooling (D) in order to separate pinion bearing cage (51) from carrier housing (50).
Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device in order to remove pinion bearing cage (51) from carrier housing (50). The weight of pinion bearing cage (51) is approximately 54 kg (119 lb).

Remove the seal spring from lip seal (59). Install lip seal (59) in the counterbore of pinion bearing cage (51) . Replace the seal spring in lip seal (59). Lubricate the sealing surface of lip seal (59) with the fluid that is being sealed.
Install the wear sleeve (not shown) of lip seal (59) on the shaft of pinion gear assembly (60). Lubricate the sealing surface of the wear sleeve with the fluid that is being sealed.
Install O-ring seal (58) on pinion bearing cage (51). Lubricate O-ring seal (58) with the fluid that is being sealed.

Install one fitting (53) onto pinion bearing cage (51).

Step 29. Assemble shims (56).
Note: The required thickness of shims (56) was determined above.
Use Tooling (F) in order to verify the thickness of shims (56).
Install shims (56) on carrier housing (50).
Lubricate pinion gear assembly (60) , the face of carrier housing (50), and the surface of Tooling (J) with the fluid that is being sealed. Place Tooling (J) in the end of the shaft of pinion gear assembly (60).
