SIX PITCH CARBURIZED GEARS AVAILABLE FOR REAR PTO 992C (49Z) LOADERS, 1165, 1204, PS4001 U-18 AU-15 C-15 E-14 See May 2, 1986 optional This program can be administered before a failure occurs, or at the time of failure. It should be completed along with other PIP's or engine service work. In either case the warranty allowances will be the same and contingent damage will not be allowed. When reporting the repair, use PS4001 as the "part number" and 7755 as the "group number". The labor allowance will be credited at cost. Problem Approximately 25% of the listed 992C (49Z) Loaders have incorrect gears installed in the rear power take-off gear train. The incorrect gears have a nitrided heat treatment and do not give satisfactory life in this application. These gears have a part number with an "8N" prefix and are seven pitch design gears. Since we cannot identify which specific machines contain the incorrect gears, this Service Letter authorizes you to install the latest gears regardless of the gears found in the machine. See April 2, 1984 Service Magazine. Affected Loaders And Parts Needed All the following 992C Loaders are in this Program: 49Z1-49Z413, 416 Parts needed (one each): 2W6393 Crankshaft Gear 2W6394 PTO Gear 2W6395 Idler Gear 6V7725 Bearing Assembly 2W1734 Crankshaft Seal 2K4472 Seal 8N1911 Gasket (Flywheel Hsg) 4N684 Pin (Flywheel Dowel) 3P7313 Ring 8H2046 Seal 4N1230 Seal Action Requested This Program may be used to replace the gears before failure, or for repair after failure. If done before failure, it should be done at the same time as other current PIP's. As many as 50 loaders may have the incorrect "8N" nitrided gears. All the listed parts must be installed together. It is particularly important to install all three gears because the six pitch gears and seven pitch gears will not operate together. The new bearing assembly is serviced as one-piece to make installation easier. This generally allows closer tolerances than formerly. (SEE ILLUSTRATION) At this time, consider installing bolt dampers at two locations in the flywheel housing. See October 29, 1984 Service Magazine, Page 7. No warranty allowances are included for this modification. The former 2W3996, 2W3998 or 2W8346 Gears are still serviced for other applications. Warranty Allowances The allowances depend on what other work was done at the same time, and the amount of use on the gears.
