Remove the winch control valve from the winch. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Control Valve (Winch) - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Remove three O-ring seals (2) from brake cover (4).
Remove two short bolts (1) and the washers that attach the brake cover to the brake housing.
Remove six bolts (3) and the washers.Note: Alternately loosen bolts (3) until the spring tension is released.
Remove brake cover (4).

Remove two belleville springs (8) from brake housing (5).
Remove three O-ring seals (6) and O-ring seal (7) from brake housing (5).

Remove seal carrier (9) from brake cover (4).

Remove two rings (10) from seal carrier (9).

Install Tooling (A) to brake housing (5).
Use Tooling (A) to pry brake housing (5) from the winch.
Use two people to remove brake housing (5) from the winch. The weight of the brake housing is 23 kg (50 lb).
