Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the transmission oil cooler. For additional information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Oil Cooler - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Cap all lines, all hoses, and all tubes and plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the oil from the engine crankcase into a suitable container. The capacity of the engine crankcase is 72 L (20 US gal).

Remove six bolts (2) .
Remove six bolts (1) .
Remove bonnet (3) .

Remove O-ring (4) and the two gaskets from bonnet (3) .

Remove two bolts (6) .
Remove two bolts (8) .
Remove engine oil cooler (5) from cooler inner bonnet (7) .

Remove adapter (10) from engine oil cooler (5) .
Remove two O-rings (9) from adapter (10) .
