If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
A visual inspection of each suspension cylinder and each accumulator is the first step in the analysis of a problem. Make sure that the machine is on level ground. Do the inspection on an empty machine while the engine is stopped.Check the suspension system for oil leakage. Make sure that there is no leakage around the valve core, protective cap, hoses, control box, or base of accumulators. Check for leakage at sealed joints of all suspension system equipment and fittings. Make sure that the oil charging protective cap is in place.Check the suspension system for nitrogen leakage. Nitrogen leakage is difficult to detect. A solution that consists of soap and of water can be used to detect leaks. Make sure that there is no leakage around the valve core, protective cap, and hoses. Make sure that the nitrogen charging protective cap is in place.
