Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.

The cover for the oil filter has been removed.
Note: The 1U-9824 Oil Drain Tool Group is used to drain the oil from the oil filter housing, if equipped. The 1U-9823 Filter Scoop is used to remove the oil filter element from the filter housing.
Remove the oil coolers and the oil temperature regulator housing. Note: The Illustrations do not show the following components: the water temperature regulator housing, the lines that are connected to this housing, the oil coolers and the oil temperature regulator housing that has been removed.
Drain the oil from the oil filter housings by opening the drain valves.

Attach a hoist and a strap to bracket (1).
Remove ten bolts (2).
Remove the bracket.

Remove all harness clips (7) from the filter housing.
Remove sensors (4) from the elbows.
Remove bolt (6) and clamp (9).
Remove bolts (3) and elbows (5). Not all bolts are shown. Replace the gaskets, if necessary.
Remove bolts (10) and tubes (8). Replace the gaskets, if necessary.

Remove harness clips (13).
Remove tube assemblies (11). Note: The electrical connections and the other variations in the models could require additional removals or disconnections before removal of the housings.
Fasten a hoist and Tool (A) to the oil filter housings. The weight of the oil filter housings are approximately 224 kg (496 lb). Note: Position the electrical conduit out of the way in order to allow clearance for the oil filter housings when the housings are removed.
Remove five bolts (12).
Remove the oil filter housings.
