At operating temperature, the engine cooling system is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap on the radiator is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container. The capacity of the cooling system is 42 liters (11 U.S. gal). 2. Loosen the hose clamp, and disconnect heater hose (1).3. Disconnect air line (2) and cold starting aid tube (3). 4. Remove the inlet manifold (4). See the topic "Remove & Install Intake Manifold" in this module.5. Mark for identification and location purposes and disconnect two wires (5), and two electrical connectors (6).6. Disconnect two hoses (7) from coolant manifold (8). One hose is located on the top of the coolant manifold, and the second hose is located on the bottom of the coolant manifold.7. Disconnect one upper radiator hose (9) from coolant manifold (8).8. Remove eight bolts and washers (10), and remove coolant manifold (8). The following steps are for the installation of the coolant manifold.9. Position the coolant manifold (8) with its gaskets, and secure with eight bolts and washers (10).10. Connect two hoses (7), one heater hose (1), and one upper radiator hose (9) to the coolant manifold (8).11. Install the inlet manifold (4) with its gaskets. See the topic "Remove & Install Inlet Manifold" in this module.12. Connect one air line (2), and one cold starting aid tube (3) to the inlet manifold (4).13. Connect two wires (5) and two electrical connectors (6).14. Fill the cooling system to the correct level.
