Information:
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Some commercial oils that meet API specifications may require shorter oil change intervals. The oil change intervals are determined by close monitoring of the oil condition and engine wear metals. Caterpillar prefers the scheduled oil sampling as the proper method of checking engine wear metals.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the latest oil recommendations.The machine must be level and the parking brake engaged. The oil must be warm and the engine stopped.Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Access Doors and Covers" for the location of the service points.

Remove used engine oil filters (1) and discard the used engine oil filters.
Clean the oil filter base assemblies. Make sure that all of the former gaskets are removed.
Apply a thin film of clean engine oil to the seals of the new engine oil filters.
Install the new engine oil filters hand tight until the seals of the engine oil filters contact the base. Note the position of the index marks on each filter in relation to a fixed point on the filter base. Note: There are rotation index marks on each engine oil filter that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 of a turn away from each other. When you tighten the engine oil filters , use the rotation index marks as a guide.
Tighten each filter according to the instructions that are printed on the filter. Use the index marks as a guide. Note: You may need to use a Caterpillar strap wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn the filters to the amount that is required for final installation. Make sure that the installation tool does not damage the filters.

Remove oil filler cap (2). Fill the crankcase with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the type of oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the amount of oil.
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle for five minutes. Inspect the engine oil filters for oil leaks. Make any necessary repairs.
Maintain the oil level between the "ADD" mark and the "FULL" mark. These marks are on the "LOW IDLE" side of dipstick (3). Stop the engine.
