While the bucket is in the dig position, make the first cut along the outer edge of the excavation.

Stockpile the material at the front corner in order to leave all of the sides open.

Make the first cut until the depth is .9 m (3 ft). The depth is less for material that is difficult to load. Keep the outer edge of the cut straight and clean. When an external ramp is used, carry the load and back out of the excavation.

When the first cut reaches a depth of .9 m (3 ft), start the second cut on the opposite side. Stockpile the material at the front corner of the working area. Cut out the middle area to the same depth as the end cuts. Repeat until the desired depth is obtained.

When the excavation reaches the desired depth, excavate the corners and carry the material up the center of the ramp.Then dig out the center portion of the ramp in order to provide an exit for the machine.
