223-9743 Lip Seal (A) Grease PackAdaptable To: The new 223-9743 Lip Seal is a direct replacement for the former 9X-4605 Lip Seal. The lip seal is used 6Y-5643 Transfer Gear Gp which is used in 3T-0034 Transmission Ar and in 6Y-5645 Transmission Ar. Refer to Table 1 for the effective serial numbers.

   Procedure to Install a New 223-9743 Lip Seal
Park the machine on a flat, level surface.

Install the wheel chocks on all of the wheels.
The space between the body and the frame becomes a zero clearance area when the body is lowered. Failure to install the retaining cable can result in injury or death to personnel working in this area.

Raise the truck body.

If it is necessary to install cable assembly (2) to the truck body, use the following procedure.
Support the weight of cable assembly (2) with a suitable lifting device. Install cable assembly (2) to the truck body with two bolts (6), the washers, two nuts (7) and coupler (8). The cable assembly weighs approximately 34 kg (75 lb).
Install cotter (4), pin (3), the washer and plate (1) to the truck body.
Rotate plate (1) in order to remove cable assembly (2) from storage on the truck body.

Connect cable assembly (2) to the rear axle housing assembly with pin (5) .
Remove the drive shaft. Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly Manual for the proper procedure.
Remove the yoke and the O-ring seal. Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly Manual for the proper procedure.
Use 1U-7600 Slide Hammer Puller Gp to carefully remove 9X-4605 Lip Seal. Be careful to not scratch the bore. Do not damage the bore. Clean all debris from the bore.
Clean the journal for the yoke seal with cleaning fluid. Allow the journal for the yoke seal to air dry. The journal for the seal may be polished with an emery cloth. The marks from the polishing procedure must be perpendicular to the centerline of the shaft. The marks on the journal during rotation should rotate parallel with the lip of the seal. If the polishing marks are at an angle to the rotation, the journal can work as threads on a screw. Dirt can be pushed in and oil can be pulled out of the transmission as the shaft rotates in the forward direction or the reverse direction.
Apply clean oil that is being sealed to the new 223-9743 Lip Seal .Note: Do not remove the grease that is between the inner dust lips and the outer dust lips. This grease is used to provide additional lubrication. Refer to Illustration 2.
Slide the yoke halfway onto the shaft. Lightly oil a new O-ring and place the O-ring in the yoke. By using a twisting motion, slide the yoke through the seal. Install a new yoke retention bolt.
Install the drive shaft. Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly Manual for the proper procedure.
Check for leakage.
