Machine lockout indicator circuit
Test Step 1. CHECK THE INDICATOR LAMP
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Research the Parts Manual for the proper lamp part number.
Replace the indicator lamp with an operational lamp having the proper part number.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Observe the lamp. Results:
OK - The lamp functions properly during the three second test cycle.STOP
NOT OK - The lamp does not function properly during the three second test cycle. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Disconnect the harness from the Chassis ECM.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
At the harness connector for the Chassis ECM, measure the voltage between connector J1-31 wire (173-RD(Red)) and frame ground. The voltage must be above 20.5 VDC to illuminate the lamp.
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Install a jumper wire from connector J1-31 wire (173-RD(Red)) to connector J2-10 wire (G797-BU(Blue)).
At the harness for the drivetrain lamp relay, connect B2-85 wire (113-OR(Orange)) to frame ground.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch. Expected Result:The lamp illuminates.Results:
OK - The lamp illuminates. The ECM may have failed.Repair: Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Contact the technical communicator at your Cat® dealer. If the ECM requires replacement, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - The harness is open. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS
Remove wire (H453-GY(Grey)) from the lamp socket.
Check for an open circuit between the circuit of the indicator lamp (wire H453-GY(Grey)) and drivetrain lamp relay contact B1-30.
Check for an open circuit between the circuit of the indicator lamp (wire 113-OR(Orange)) and drivetrain lamp relay contact B2-85. Expected Result:The circuits are correct.Results:
OK - The circuits are correct.STOP
NOT OK - The circuits are not correct. Repair or replace the harness.STOP
