Engine Oil Pressure - Typical oil pressure for an engine at rated speed with SAE 10W30 or with SAE 15W40 is 275 to 606 kPa (40 to 88 psi).A lower oil pressure is normal at low idle. If the load is stable and the gauge reading drops, perform the following procedure:
Remove the load.
Reduce engine speed to low idle.
Shut down the engine, and allow time for the oil to settle back into the engine oil pan.
Check the oil level. Maintain the oil level at the proper amount. The "Low Engine Oil Pressure" parameter for the engine monitoring mode must be programmed to "Derate" or "Shutdown" in order to protect the engine against damage from low engine oil pressure. Refer to the Troubleshooting Guide for more information.Note: If the oil pressure remains low, contact your Caterpillar dealer for assistance.
Engine Coolant Temperature - Typical temperature range is 87 to 98°C (189 to 208°F). The maximum allowable programmable temperature is 104 °C (220 °F) for warning, 106 °C (222 °F) for derate mode, and 107 °C (224 °F) for shutdown mode. The coolant temperature may vary according to load.
Tachometer - This gauge indicates engine speed (rpm).Note: The engine high idle speed (rpm) and the engine full load speed (rpm) are stamped on the Information Plate.
System Voltage - This gauge indicates the amount of voltage in the electrical system.
Ammeter - This gauge indicates the amount of amperage load on the electrical system. Operation of the indicator should be to the positive side of "0"(zero). If the amperage load is on the minus side of the gauge, the charging circuit is not able to satisfy the electrical load in the electrical system, so the battery will discharge.
Fuel Pressure - This gauge indicates fuel pressure to the fuel filter. The indicator should indicate the "NORMAL" range. Typical fuel pressure at low idle is 510 kPa (74 psi). Maximum fuel pressure is 586 kPa (85 psi) when the engine is at high idle.
Inlet Air Temperature - This gauge indicates inlet manifold air temperature. Maximum recommended inlet manifold air temperature is 79 °C (175 °F).
Service Hour Meter - This gauge indicates the total number of hours of crankshaft rotation. The ECM only counts the time when the crankshaft is rotating. The ECM does not count the time when the main power key switch is in the ON position. A service tool is needed to retrieve the hours from the ECM. A Service Hour Meter may be installed on the engine.Indicators
Indicator lamps are used to warn the operator of potential problems with the engine or auxiliary equipment connected to the engine.The "Diagnostic" lamp will communicate the status of the electronic system of the engine. If the diagnostic lamp comes on, contact your Caterpillar dealer for assistance.The "Warning" lamp warns the operator of engine problems.Note: The engine should be shutdown when a warning lamp comes on. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for assistance.
