Always use a designated pump for oil sampling, and use a separate designated pump for coolant sampling. Using the same pump for both types of samples may contaminate the samples that are being drawn. This contaminate may cause a false analysis and an incorrect interpretation that could lead to concerns by both dealers and customers.
The oil sample for the differential and for the final drives is obtained with a sampling gun through the filler plugs in the final drives or through the fill location at the rear axle housing.In order to obtain a sample from the rear axle housing, use the steps that follow:
Clean the area around the sight gauge.
Remove bolts (1) and sight gauge (2).
Obtain an oil sample.
Clean sight gauge (2).
Install sight gauge (2) with bolts (1). Refer to the following publications for information about obtaining an oil sample.
