Illustration 1 shows the location of boom wear pads. The extending sections are supported by wear pads. The wear pads are located at the front, the rear, and the sides of the boom. The wear pads on the top and the bottom of the boom support the weight of the boom sections and the load.The side wear pads take any side thrust. To obtain the correct alignment of the boom sections, the wear pads can be adjusted by shimming. Also, to compensate for wear, the wear pads can be adjusted by shimming. For adjustment procedures, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7111 and SEBU7017, "Boom Wear Pad Clearance-Inspect/Adjust".

Piston rod (8) is attached to the rear of first section (3). The front of the cylinder is supported by support pad (14) .Second section (2) is extended and retracted by the cylinder. Third section (1) is extended by chain (5) and retracted by chain (11) .The chain for extension is attached to adjuster (9) at the rear of first section (3). The chain passes around chain pulley (4) that is located on the front of the cylinder and the chain is attached to chain anchor (12) which is attached to the rear of third section (1) .Chain (11) for retraction is attached to adjuster (13) at the front of first section (3). The chain passes around chain pulley (10) and the chain is attached to chain anchor (12) .When the boom extend is engaged, second section (2) begins to move with the cylinder.Chain (5) for extension is loaded and the chain is rolled around chain pulley (4). The chain pulls third section (1) forward and third section (1) slides out of second section (2) .As second section (2) and third section (1) extend, chain (11) is pulled around the chain pulley (10) by third section (1)
