Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
Fully open engine hood.

Disconnect sensor assembly (2). Remove two bolts (1).

Loosen clamp (4) and remove exhaust pipe (3).

Loosen ball clamps (5) and (7) on bellows assembly (6). Note: Put orientation marks across clamp assemblies (9) for assembly purposes.
Loosen clamps (9). Slide catalyst (8) towards the rear of the machine enough to remove bellows assembly (6).

Use two people to remove panel (10).

Attach a suitable lifting device to catalyst (8). The weight of catalyst (8) is approximately 41 kg (90 lb).
Disconnect clamps (9)

Raise catalyst (8) enough to remove temperature sensor (11). Remove catalyst (8). Note: Discard ball clamps (5).Installation Procedure
Note: When installing a new catalyst, a SCR reset must be performed. Refer to Troubleshooting, UENR0955, "Cat ET Service Features".
Install catalyst (8) in the reverse order of removal.

Note: Do not use power tools in order to torque clamp assemblies (9).
Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of clamp assemblies (9) along Distance (X). Distance (X) is 25 mm (1.0 inch) above the trunnion. Tighten clamp assemblies (9) to a torque of 16.5 1.5 N m (146 13 lb in).

Note: Do not use power tools in order to torque ball clamps (5). Use new ball clamps (5). Do not reuse old ball clamps.
Verify that the cup of the Ball Joint (G) does not touch the radius of the Ball (F). Position ball clamps (5), hand tighten ball clamps (5). Ball clamps (5) should be in the center of the joint.
Dimension (C) and Dimension (D) should be equal within 2.0 mm (0.08 inch). Repeat the measurements every 90° around ball clamps (5). If necessary, adjust ball clamps (5).
Torque ball clamps (5) to a torque of 35 2 N m (26 1 lb ft). Note: Do not apply Tooling (B) if sensors (11) and (2) are new. Sensors (11) and (2) are shipped with the proper lubricant on the threads.
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads on temperature sensor (11) Tighten sensor assembly (11) to the following torque 45 5 N m (33 4 lb ft).
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of sensor assembly (2).
