Joystick ControlThe up arrow refers to the LOWER position. The down arrow refers to the RAISE position. The right arrow refers to the DUMP position. The left arrow refers to the TILT BACK position. The up arrow refers to the auxiliary lever in the FORWARD position. The down arrow refers to the auxiliary lever in the REARWARD position. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Lower the work tool to the ground. Stop the engine.

Location of the Connector for Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET)
Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the machine according to the following directions. Connect the 139-4166 Data Link Cable to the connector on the 7X-1700 Communication Adapter and to the service connector on the machine. Connect the 139-4166 Data Link Cable to the connector on the 7X-1700 Communication Adapter and to the service connector on the machine.Reference: For additional information on use of the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET), refer to Troubleshooting and Testing and Adjusting, "Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician to Determine Diagnostic Codes" for the machine that is being serviced.
Start the machine.
Open the software program for the ET.

Select "Implement (for the machine that is being serviced)" from the "ECM Selector" screen and click on the "OK" button.

Select "Service" menu in the ET. Then, select "Calibrations" from the "Service" menu. Select "Linkage Calibrations" from the calibration menu.

Note: The ET software defaults so that the linkage position sensors will be selected for calibration. If an individual position sensor needs calibration, click in the box in order to remove the position sensor that is not required for calibration.
Select the "Begin" button in order to start the calibration of the position sensors. The screen will change in order to display step-by-step instructions for calibrating the lift linkage position sensor. Note: If the machine is equipped with a joystick control, follow the same strategy that is used by the control levers.

Select the "Next" button in order to begin the calibration. Follow the steps that are listed in the bottom section of the screen until the calibration procedure is complete. A check mark button will be placed to the left of a completed step and the next step will be highlighted in bold text. After successful completion of a step, you may need to select the "Next" button in order to begin the next step.

When the calibration of the position sensor (lift linkage) is complete, ET will display a status screen. The status screen will inform you if the calibration was successful. Select the "Continue" button in order to go to the calibration for the position sensor (tilt cylinder)
