Remove the display from the headliner.

Grasp both sides of cover (1). Remove the cover from the back of the display.

Remove carrier (3) from the display by carefully grasping two tabs (4) at the top and the bottom. Then, remove the carrier.
In order to install a EEPROM, match the notches of the cavity with the carrier. Insert the EEPROM until the top of the carrier is flush with the cavity.
Reinstall the cover.
Connect the display. Make sure that the display operates correctly. Proceed to Step 8 if the display functions properly. If the display does not function properly, proceed to ""Troubleshooting"".

Troubleshooting can be difficult. The following pages list some of the possible problems. You are Unable to Read the Characters on the Display
If portions of the display will not light, the display must be replaced.The Display will not Turn On
Make sure that the engine start switch key is in the ON position.
The power connections and ground connections to the display are loose or poor.
The machine's battery is dead.
The EEPROM is not inserted in the display or the EEPROM is not fully seated in display.
After checking the above items, if the condition still exists, refer to Step 1 of ""Diagnostics"".The "No Data Link Communication" Message is Displayed.
One of the two ATA Data Link lines to the engine ECM is not connected or there is an intermittent connection in one of the ATA Data Link lines.
The display is connected to the SAE J1922 Data Link instead of the ATA Data Link.
There is no power to the engine ECM or the power connections or the ground connections to the engine ECM are intermittent.
After checking the above items, if the condition still exists, refer to Step 1 of ""Diagnostics"".All Data Except Lifetime Totals Has Been Reset
The unswitched battery connection to the engine ECM has been disconnected. This could be the result of service to the machine.
The data was reset with the display and/or an electronic service tool.
Determine the reason for the reset and avoid future occurrences. If a different system problem is suspected, consult any Caterpillar dealer. The Current Field Totals, the Last Field Totals, the Rolling Totals, and the Lifetime Totals have been Reset
The engine ECM was recently replaced.Certain Instantaneous Data Parameters Appear Unavailable
The display may not display certain information because the information may not be requested. Information is not requested if the data does not change within a specified period of time. In order to display the information, scroll to the next screen. Then, scroll back to the previous screen.
This information is not available on the data link because the appropriate sensor is not installed.
The machine model does not support the specified parameter. For example, not all machines support variable horsepower.Diagnostics
Check electrical connectors and wiring.
Follow the display's wiring harness and locate the display's connector.
Inspect the wiring harness for evidence of wear through the harness bundle.
