Follow the recommended procedure for removal and installation of tires and or wheel assemblies.Ensure that the machine and tire and or wheel assembly are properly supported at all times.Improper procedures that are used to remove and install tires and or wheel assemblies can result in personal injury or death.
Servicing and changing tires and rims can be dangerous. This work must be done only by trained personnel with correct tools and procedures. If correct procedures are not followed while servicing tires and rims, the assemblies can burst with explosive force and cause serious physical injury or death. Follow carefully the specification information provided by your tire servicing person or dealer.
Note: The following procedure shows the installation of the rear tires and rims that are on the right side of the truck. This procedure is used for the rear tires and rims that are on the left side of the truck.Note: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct tire handling recommendations and tire inflation procedures.Note: A tire handler or a lift truck with sideshift can be used for the installation of the tires and the rims when the cab platform and the truck body are installed. A tire handler and a lift truck are in the photos in this procedure. A rim weighs 1480 kg (3262.8 lb). A tire weighs 3500 kg (7716.2 lb).Note: The assembly of the rim to the tire is performed by a local tire servicing person. If necessary, move two valve groups (5), two connectors, extension (4), extension (16), two O-ring seals, the rim, and the tire to the appropriate site for the installation. The rim weighs approximately 3260 kg (7187.1 lb). The tire weighs 3500 kg (7716.2 lb).Note: Before the installation of the tires and the rims, thoroughly clean the machined mounting surface of the wheel, the rim, and the adapter ring. Remove any grease, paint, debris, or other contaminants.Note: Do not add any lubrication to the nuts, the bolts, and the washers.

Illustration 2 g00570579Note: Before the installation of the inside tire and rim, mark the wheel assembly with chalk at the locations of the four bolt holes. The four bolt holes are the mounting location of the guards for the valve stem extensions. This mark will simplify the alignment procedure for the tires and the rims on the wheel.
Use a tire handler to support the tire and the rim. The tire and the rim weigh approximately 5159 kg (11373.6 lb).

Install the inside tire and rim. Use Tooling (B) to install two nuts (17) and two washers that are separated by 180 degrees. The two nuts and two washers will retain the tire and the rim. Remove the tire handler.
Use Tooling (B) to install remaining 68 nuts (17) and 68 washers.Note: During the installation of nuts (17), use Tooling (B) to tighten the nuts to a torque of 1000 125 N m (738 92 lb ft).
