Information:

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Main Relief Valve

(1) Control Valve (brake)
(2) Main Relief Valve Main Relief Valve (2) is located on Control Valve (brake) (1). Control Valve (brake) (1) is located below the truck body on the left side of the machine.

Connect a hose assembly with an 8T-0860 Pressure Gauge ( 0 to 40000 kPa (0 to 5800 psi)) to pressure tap (4).
Start the engine. Allow the brake accumulators to charge fully.
Run the engine at low idle.

(1) Control Valve (brake)
(5) Solenoid Valve (Brake Pump Unloader) Note: Solenoid valve (5) is normally in an energized state which unloads pump flow to the tank. This causes pressure to remain below the pressure setting of Main Relief Valve (2).

In order to de-energize solenoid valve (5), solenoid valve (5) must be overridden through Cat ET. Refer to Illustration 4 and Illustration 5 for information on overriding solenoid valve (5).

In order to verify that solenoid valve (5) is de-energized, ensure that Cat ET shows the status of solenoid valve (5) as "Off".
Do not allow oil to flow across the main relief valve for more than 30 seconds at a time. This can damage the hydraulic system.
View the pressure that is shown on the gauge that was installed in Step 1. Record the pressure on the gauge. Note: The correct pressure setting for Main Relief Valve (2) is 23100 345 kPa (3350 50 psi).
Stop the engine.

If the pressure needs to be adjusted, loosen locknut (6) of Main Relief Valve (2).
Use extreme caution when adjusting relief valves. A small turn of the adjustment screw can cause a great amount of change to the relief setting. Adjusting the relief pressure too high can result in component failure.
Rotate adjustment screw (7) clockwise by a 1/4 turn in order to raise the pressure. Rotate adjustment screw (7) counterclockwise by a 1/4 turn in order to lower the pressure. Note: Always make final pressure adjustments on pressure rise.
Repeat Step 2 through Step 9 until the pressure setting is correct.
