Drift Tests for Bulldozer Lift Cylinder
TEST NO. 1: Raise the front of the machine off the ground by lowering a level blade. Put the control lever in HOLD position. Shut off the engine and watch the lift cylinder rod for movement.TEST NO. 2: Raise the front of the machine off the ground by lowering a level blade. Shut off the engine. Hold the lift control lever in LOWER position. Watch the lift cylinder rod for movement.TEST NO. 3: Raise the blade off the ground. Put the control lever in HOLD position. Shut off the engine and watch the lift cylinder rod for movement.TEST NO. 4: Raise the blade off the ground. Shut off the engine. Hold the lift control lever in RAISE position. Watch the lift cylinder rod for movement. The lift cylinder can be checked for oil leakage.Lower the bulldozer enough to lift the front of the machine off of the ground. With the lift control lever in HOLD position, disconnect the hydraulic line from the rod end of the lift cylinder. After only a few minutes, a very small amount of oil will run out of the rod end opening of the cylinder where the hydraulic line was disconnected. If oil flows out of the opening, the piston seal could be the cause for too much oil.The lift control valve for the bulldozer must be removed, disassembled and checked if the lift cylinder oil leakage test shows that the cylinder is not the cause of cylinder drift.Drift Tests for 815B Bulldozer Tilt Cylinder
TEST NO. 1: Put the blade flat on the ground. Raise the front of the machine off the ground by lowering the right side of the blade (TILT RIGHT). Put the tilt lever in HOLD position. Start and run the engine at high idle rpm. Lift and lower the lift arms again and again to get an increase in the temperature of the hydraulic oil. The oil in the system must be SAE 10 and at a temperature of 65 3° C (150 5° F) to get accurate test results.Use a stop watch or timer to measure the time for the bulldozer to lift from the ground to the top of its travel. Run the engine at high idle rpm when the measurement of time for the bulldozer lift is made.The time for the bulldozer to lift is 1.4 to 2.0 seconds.If the travel time is not correct:1. Check pump efficiency.2. Check the setting of the relief valve.3. Check the lift cylinder for leakage.4. The make-up valve in the bulldozer lift circuit (in the lift control valve) could have leaks.5.
