start by:a) remove parking brake **This operation is in the VEHICLE SYSTEMS DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY section. 1. Put a 76 mm (3 in.) block (1) as a support for front drive shaft (2) and to prevent damage to the drive shaft splines. 2. Disconnect grease line (3) from the fitting. 3. Remove bolts (4) and the nuts that hold carrier bearing and carrier bearing housings (5) on the machine.4. Remove the carrier bearing and carrier bearing housings from the front drive shaft. 5. Remove bolts (6) and make a separation of the two housings. If necessary, use two 5/8"-11 NC x 1 3/4 in. long bolts through the threaded holes in housing to make a separation of the housings. 6. Use tool group (A) to remove the seal from housing (7). 7. Use tool group (A) and a press to remove the carrier bearing from housing (8).8. Use tool group (A) and remove the seal from housing (8).Install Drive Shaft Carrier Bearing
1. Use tool group (A) to install the seal in housing (1). Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the outside as shown.
Both lip type seals for the carrier bearing housings must be installed so the lips of the seals are toward the front drive shaft at assembly to keep grease out of the parking brake.
2. Use tool group (A) and a press and install carrier bearing (2) in housing (1). 3. Use tool group (A) to install the seal in housing (3). Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the inside. 4. Put clean grease on the lip of the seal and put carrier bearing and housing (1) in position over the front drive shaft. 5. Put clean grease on the lip of the seal and put housing (3) in position over the front drive shaft. Install the bolts that hold the two housings together. 6. Install bolts (4) and the nuts that hold the carrier bearing to the machine.7. Connect grease fitting (5) to the carrier bearing.8. Install the yoke for the center drive shaft on the end of the front drive shaft.9. Fill the carrier bearing housings with clean grease and make sure no grease comes out between the lip type seal and yoke into the parking brake area. If there is leakage of grease, a replacement of the lip type seal must be made in the carrier bearing housing.10. Remove the yoke from the end of the drive shaft.11.
