Remove the slack adjuster. Note: The disassembly procedure is identical for both the right side of the slack adjuster and the left side of the slack adjuster. For simplicity, the disassembly procedure for only one side of the slack adjuster is shown. Repeat this procedure for disassembly of the opposite slack adjuster.

Remove fittings (2) from slack adjuster (1).

Note: Housing (3) is fastened to base (4) under spring force. Hold housing (3) by hand when the housing is removed from base (4).
Position slack adjuster (1) in a soft jawed vise, as shown. Use Tooling (A) to remove housing (3) from base (4).

Remove piston assembly (5) from housing (3).

Remove remove spring (6) and shim (7).

Push down on piston housing (9) by hand. Use Tooling (B) to remove retaining ring (8) from piston assembly (7).

Remove piston housing (9) from piston assembly (7).
Remove O-ring seal (10) from piston assembly (7).

Remove O-ring seal (11) from the top surface of piston (12). Remove piston (12) from piston housing (9). Remove two springs (15) and (16). Remove two O-ring seals (13) and (14) from piston (12).
Repeat Step 1 through Step 8 for the opposite side of the slack adjuster.
