Perform continuity checks at connectors in order to locate harness failures. At component connectors, always check the ground circuit. Excessive ground resistance can produce an incorrect diagnosing of a problem. For sensor circuits, switch circuits and solenoid circuits, the resistance between the connector ground contacts and frame ground must be less than 5 ohms. For power circuits, the resistance between the connector ground contacts and frame ground must be less than 2 ohms. During troubleshooting, inspect all component and harness connections before any component is replaced. If these connections are not clean and tight, they can cause permanent or intermittent electrical problems. Check that the wires are pushed into the connectors completely. Make sure the connections are tight before other tests are made. Harness repairs should be performed using the same gauge of wire. All wire to wire joints should be soldered and tightly taped with 1P-0810 Electrical Tape or covered with shrink sleeving.Failure of an electrical component can cause the failure of one or more other components. Failure of an electrical component can also be caused by the failure of one or more other components. Always attempt to find and correct the cause of electrical system failure before you replace of a component.
