Depress and hold the rear elevation bypass switch (27) and the rear elevation switch simultaneously in the downward direction. Lower the rear of the machine the same amount as the depth of cut. If the specified depth of cut is 5.08 cm (2.0 inch), lower the rear of the machine 5.08 cm (2.0 inch) past the Auto Stop position. Place both grade controllers into the automatic mode by depressing the red AUTO button (8) on both controllers.Note: For best depth control accuracy, it is recommended to keep the machine level with the surface to be milled, front to back at all times. Look at the machine from the side to determine if it is level.

Before the machine starts the initial cut, move the switch for the water control to the MANUAL position. The water that is spraying onto the rotor will cool the bits as the bits make contact with the surface. The water will also aid in dust control on the initial plunge cut.
Once the initial cut is made, move the switch for the water control to the AUTO position. When the water spray system is in the AUTO position the system is activated when the rotor is engaged and the machine is moving forward.

For additional depth, turn the adjustment knob (26) on the controller to the right. This will lower the front of the machine to the specified depth.Note: The Topcon System 5 remembers the ZERO calibration and the previous set point.Note: The set-point is the last measurement that is entered into the grade/slope control in AUTO mode and MANUAL mode. The display indicates the set-point while the controller is in the AUTO mode. The display indicates the actual depth when the controller is in the INDICATE mode.Note: A negative set-point should appear in the LCD display when the machine is in the cut and the controller is in the GRADE mode.

If the right side controller or the left side controller is in the SLOPE mode turn the adjustment knob (26) until the specified percent of slope is shown in the LCD display. Verify that the correct direction of slope is shown in the LCD display.
Release the parking brake.
Verify that the green on-grade indicator (25) is displayed on the controllers. Verify that the red on-grade indicator is displayed on the sonic sensors.
Propel the machine forward slowly at around 6 meters per minute (20 feet per minute) to 9.1 meters per minute (30 feet per minute).
As the rear tracks enter the cut, keep the machine level front to rear by raising the rear of the machine. Raise the rear of the machine as the rear tracks enter the cut. When the rear tracks are fully into the cut, the machine should still be level.
After the machine has cut approximately 9.1 m (30 ft) check the depth of cut. Make adjustments to the set-point, if
