Inspect the pads. The position of pin (4) will indicate the approximate pad wear. When pin (4) is 3 mm (0.118 inch) above surface (3) replace the pads.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Rotor Drive Brakes - Adjust" in the Service Manual for your machine, or consult your Caterpillar dealer for information or for service.Parking Brake
Move the rotor control to the NEUTRAL position in order to release the parking brake. The parking brake may also be released with an external power source. Releasing the parking brake with an external power source will require 9650 kPa (1400 psi) to 12400 kPa (1800 psi).Note: If the machine hydraulics are used to release the parking brake verify that the brake pressure is between 9650 kPa (1400 psi) and 12400 kPa (1800 psi). Do not exceed 13780 kPa (2000 psi) in order to release the parking brake. The parking brake can be damaged if more than 13780 kPa (2000 psi) is used.
Measure the distance from the disk to the brake pad on both sides of the disk. If the distance is greater than 3.3 mm (0.13 inch) adjust the brakes.
If adjustment is required, turn the adjustment bolt IN or OUT. Each turn of the adjustment bolt results in a 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) change in the distance. The distance should be maintained at 1.8 .25 mm (0.07 0.010 inch). The minimum acceptable difference in the gap measurement between the two sides is 0.5 mm (0.02 inch).
