(35)Bucket Lower Pivot Pins
1. Remove the bolts from the collets of each cartridge pin (each bucket has two cartridge pins). Remove the two collets from each pin. 2. Remove the plug on the outside of the cartridge pin and install a grease fitting.3. Remove the plug on the inner side of the cartridge pin.
Use a new grease gun or thoroughly wash a grease gun and a nozzle in a clean, nonflammable solvent.Thoroughly dry the grease gun and the nozzle. Fill the grease gun with MPL, SAE 90.
4. Lubricate the cartridge pin through the grease fitting, which was installed in step 2 above. Pump grease gun slowly, until lubricant begins to flow from the plug opening. 5. Remove the grease fitting from the cartridge pin. Clean and install both plugs. 6. Install the collets and press the collets onto the pin with a force of 445 kN (50 tons). Install the bolt through the collets and tighten the nut to 870 100 N m (645 75 lb ft). 7. Lubricate the other pin in the same manner and sequence.(36)Cooling System-Changing Coolant Solution
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Inspect the coolant level ONLY when the engine is stopped and the radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your hand.Remove the radiator cap slowly to relieve the pressure. The cooling system conditioner contains alkali, avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent injury.
If the machine is to be stored in, or shipped to an area with freezing temperatures, the cooling system must be protected to the lowest expected ambient temperature, or drained completely.Pure undiluted antifreeze will freeze at -23°C (-10°F).
If the machine is equipped with a coolant conditioner assembly, use a coolant conditioner precharge element 9N3367.If the machine uses liquid cooling system conditioner, add 3 liters (6 pints) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, to the coolant. Follow instructions on the container carefully.NEVER use liquid cooling system conditioner together with a coolant conditioner element.Do not use Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill coolant. Follow the recommendations provided with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill coolant.Protect the cooling system with a 3% concentration of cooling system conditioner or with a coolant conditioner element regardless of the anti-freeze concentration.
IMPORTANT When the coolant conditioner element is changed or liquid cooling system conditioner is added to the coolant at the recommended intervals, the cooling system drain period can be extended to 4000 service hours or 2 years.Use clean water that is low in scale forming minerals, not softened water. The machine must be level, the bucket lowered with slight down pressure, the engine stopped and cool. 1. Turn the radiator cap slowly to relieve the pressure. Remove the cap. 2. Open the drain valve and drain the coolant from the engine and the radiator.3. Close the drain valve. 4. Mix the antifreeze solution (see REFILL CAPACITIES) to provide protection to the lowest expected ambient temperature.5. Add the coolant slowly, 19 liters (5 U.S. gallons)
