Certain 2J9630, 2G9349, 2G9350, 5K4985, 5K4986,8D6138, 8D6139, and 5T0975 Brake Camshafts may not have received the properheat treat. These camshafts need to be removed from dealer parts stock.ACTION REQUIRED
A visual inspection can be used to separate certainnon-conformance pieces from good pieces. If a well defined dark ring ispresent on the end of the camshaft then the shaft is non-conforming. Referto the Illustration 1. If the ring is not present, then hardness test mustbe performed. Illustration 1
If the well defined dark ring is not presentthen a hardness test can be performed in order to determine conformance.Refer to the Illustration 2 for the location where a hardness test canbe performed. The part is good if the hardness level is above RK C 55. Illustration 2
