Escaping fluid under pressure, even a pinhole size leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury, and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Perform the following procedures if oil leakage is discovered from the travel motors. The following procedures are used to reseat the steel rings in each travel motor.Note: This procedure needs to be done before weather is at cold ambient temperatures.The following procedures are used for all of the travel motors of the four-wheel drive machines and the rear travel motors of the six-wheel drive machines.The following procedures use a 9U-6600 Hand Hydraulic Pump to reseat the steel rings in each travel motor.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.

Open the hood.
Remove the coupling assembly from one of the hoses on 9U-6600 Hand Hydraulic Pump. Attach 8T-6776 Adapter to the hose. Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the case drain lines are disconnected, the connector of the case drain lines should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the system.Note: Put identification marks on the lines for installation purposes. Plug the lines. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Disconnect case drain line (3) from manifold (2) .Case drain lines (3), (4), (5), and (6) are connected to manifold (2). The manifold is located inside the rear frame on the left side. Case drain lines (3), (4), (5), and (6) are the case drain lines to the travel motors. Case drain line (1) connects manifold (2) to the case drain oil filter (power train).
Connect case drain line (3) to 9U-6600 Hand Hydraulic Pump .Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS9061
Do not allow the oil pressure to exceed 1500 kPa (220 psi) or damage to the seals of the travel motor can occur.
Carefully pressurize the case drain line to 1200 to 1500 kPa (175 to 220 psi).
Disconnect case drain line (3) from 9U-6600 Hand Hydraulic Pump .
Connect case drain line (3) .
Repeat Steps 4 through 8 for case drain lines (4), (5), and (6) .Note: Only case drain lines (3) and (4) need to be pressurized for the six-wheel drive machines. Case drain lines (3) and (4) are connected to the rear travel motors.
Close the hood.
