Set the parking brake and lower the bulldozer blade. Mark the track roller frame at the point of rotation. See Illustration 20.
Repeat step 1 through step 3 in order to find the point of rotation for the track roller frame on the left side of the machine.
Measure dimension (D) on the track roller frame on the right side of the machine. Dimension (D) is the distance between the point of rotation and the center of the front idler.
Measure dimension (E) on the track roller frame on the right side of the machine. Dimension (E) is the distance between the center of the front idler and the center of the rear idler.
Divide dimension (D) by dimension (E) in order to find the balance ratio.
Repeat step 5 through step 7 in order to find the balance ratio of the track roller frame on the left side of the machine.
Average the two balance ratios in order to find the balance ratio of the machine.The balance ratio of the machine should be between .42 and .50. If the balance ratio is out of specification, add or remove weight accordingly.Center Tread Idlers
Center tread idlers are a custom product. Center tread idlers are designed for high abrasion and low impact applications. The center tread idler's tread runs on the track bushing of the rotating bushing track. The links and rollers of rotating bushing track wear at a much higher rate than the bushing and the center tread idler. Therefore, maintaining the correct height of center tread idlers is very critical.The procedure for a machine with center tread idlers is similar to the procedure for a machine with a conventional undercarriage. Part numbers are stamped or cast on the idlers. Note the part numbers and reference the part numbers to Table 3.

Use the data from the inspection of the undercarriage in order to determine wear factor (A). The charts for wear factor (A) are in Illustrations 21 and 25. Use the data from the inspection of the undercarriage in order to determine wear factor (B). The charts for wear factor (B) are in Illustrations 22 and 26.
Use wear factor (A) and wear factor (B) in order to determine if the shims should be removed from the mounting blocks for the idlers. The charts for the shims are in Illustrations 23, 24, 27, and 28.
If necessary, remove the shims in order to adjust the idlers to the correct height.
