The transmission hydraulic control valves used on countershaft transmissions are made of aluminum. There has been several reports of spool sticking in these control valves, which may result in a reduced or loss of clutch pressure. Replacement of the control valve body may or may not fix the problem. It has been determined that there is a problem with controlling the flatness of the aluminum parts during manufacture.Solution:
The problem is under investigation and a solution is forthcoming. Be sure to check for a sticking spool with the transmission control valve and manifold assembled to the transmission case with the proper torque on the bolts. If you think the problem of spool sticking is caused by the body not being flat, and not by scratches or debris, don't forget to consider the manifold in your troubleshooting process. The manifold may not be flat and by bolting the valve body to it, the body will conform to the surface of the manifold, which in turn distorts the spool bore in the body.
