Information:
Installation of Joystick Harness
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

Remove 248-2079 Cover (A) and 247-4969 Plate (B) from the bottom of the housing of the joystick in order to access the harness.

Replace existing harness assembly with 316-8507 Control Harness As (1). Note the position and the location of the existing harness that is secured with 7K-1181 Cable Straps (2). Only the harness connectors marked 3 and 4 should be reattached. Reconnect all connectors except for the two electrical connections for the joystick, because the joystick will be removed later. Reapply cable straps to the new harness after the joystick has been replaced.Note: Wiring for the control harness needs to be verified at the "12 Pin" connector for the joystick. The number 8 pin in the connector should connect to the yellow wire "G788" and number 11 pin should connect to the green wire "G787". If this is not correct the joystick will not function correctly.
Machines with the remote "FNR" switch in the control housing should disconnect the switch. Machines with the remote "FNR" switch remove the switch. Use a 228-6089 Plug (6) to cover the opening.ReferenceRefer to Illustration 3.

Remove 279-6641 Boot (5) from the joystick .
Remove joystick control from the housing.

Remove the three 213-7489 Screws (7) and 178-9983 Locknuts (8) that secure the handle to the joystick control.
Remove the existing handle control group.
Install either the 2 function 277-3279 Handle Control Gp or the 3 function 277-3282 Handle Control Gp with the same harness routing as the previous handle.
Reinstall rubber boot on the joystick.
Reinstall joystick control into the control housing.
Reconnect the two connectors between the joystick and the 316-8507 Control Harness As .

Location of horn
The installation of the 277-3282 Handle Control Gp will require a 170-1821 Push Button Switch (9) for the horn and a 140-5945 Film (10) to be installed in the housing. Connect the 170-1821 Push Button Switch to the 316-8507 Control Harness As .
If the machine is equipped with the Autodig Feature, the Autodig trigger switch must also be reconnected to the 316-8507 Control Harness As .
Reinstall 248-2079 Cover and the 247-4969 Plate .Software configuration and calibration of the Control Gp - Joystick that has the forward neutral reverse switch in the joystick
Use a Caterpillar Electronic Technician and select the Implement Electronic Control Module.
Select "SERVICE" from the menu.
Select "CONFIGURATION" from the menu. Select "Joystick Installation Status" to "Installed".
Select the "Powertrain" Electronic Control
